His promotion marks a milestone: he is the first leader from the U.S. Engines Division to rise to the top position of the GPE Division.

Fumihiro (Clint) Ohno, the senior vice president and general manager of the engines division since 2014, and Atsuhiro Yoshimatsu, executive vice president and general manager of research & development since 2019, both returned to corporate headquarters in Japan. After a total of 17 years with the engines division, Ohno continues to serve in a consultatory role, as a senior

Nelson Wilner, formerly vice president of business operations, becomes senior vice president and general manager, business operations. Wilner now holds one of the top leadership positions within the engines division and is responsible for continuing to enhance a strong employee and customer-centered culture while positioning the company for future product and sales expansion.

Eisaku Mori is a veteran executive of Kawasaki in both Japan and the United States. Mori previously held positions at the engine manufacturing plant in Missouri and at the engines division in Michigan before returning to the corporate office in Japan in 2019. Mori, who most recently held the position of general manager of general purpose engines in Japan, now returns to Grand Rapids, succeeding Yoshimatsu as executive vice president and general manager of research & development.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (October 19, 2022) --- Kawasaki Engines has unveiled a new line of engines at Equip Exposition 2022: EVO, the next evolution for Kawasaki Engines, an electronic fuel-injected (EFI) engine that offers increased power density and improved fuel efficiency.

The latest development in performance excellence, EVO engines are manufactured at the Kawasaki Engines facility in Maryville, Missouri. EVO’s increased power density and greater efficiency are the result of enhanced intake and a technologically advanced throttle control system. Combined with fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, EVO has been developed to meet the needs of today’s lawn and landscape professionals.

Kawasaki EFI integrates a cutting-edge electronic throttle control and an advanced electronic control unit to continuously match mower engine power to cutting load and ground speed. Blades maintain maximum cutting performance through heavy turf, tall grass and up hills.

EVO engines include the following features:

Intake efficiency - The compact layout allows for a more direct air path and flow area has also been increased. The shorter path and larger area result in enhanced intake efficiency, which delivers higher performance and improved fuel economy.

New cylinder head design - Developed for high-powered performance, the new FX EVO features cylinder heads with intake and exhaust ports optimized for maximum efficiency and improved flow. The low-pressure casting technology results in high strength, temperature-resistant heads.

3-valve cylinder head - Each FX EVO engine’s cylinder head features three valves, two intake and one exhaust, with increased diameters. Benefits include increased efficiency, improved combustion and reduced exhaust emissions by helping the engine breathe easier.

Pent-roof combustion chamber - The optimized combustion chamber design features a pent-roof construction and three valves that generate a stronger tumble flow. Stronger tumble flow encourages better flame propagation, which improves combustion. Results are better fuel economy and lower emissions.

Oversized inspection cover - In direct response to customer demand, the size of the inspection covers and clean-out ports on the new FX EVO are dramatically increased for enhanced ease of maintenance. This enlarged structure allows for more efficient grass removal from around the cylinder head and cooling fins, and allows access to the intake manifold and fuel injectors without removing the fan housing.

Larger oil fill - Designed for quick and convenient oil changes, the FX EVO engine’s dipstick and fill tube have been increased in diameter compared with the FX850V EFI, while the cap features a quarter-turn design.

Cyclone air filtration - An important element of each FX EVO, the proven multi-stage FX air filtration system provides the engine with clean, filtered air by swirling heavy grass, dust and debris away from the filter and other crucial engine components.

SAE-certified horsepower – as with all Kawasaki Engines, Certified Critical Power™ engines deliver a minimum of 98% of rated horsepower.

Kawasaki Engines Announces New Dealer Structure in Puerto Rico

Boonville, Missouri, site will employ more than 250 people; now second plant in the state

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Oct. 7, 2021) -- To meet increased demand from customers, the quantity of Kawasaki engines special-built for lawn, garden and industrial applications will get a needed boost next summer when a new production facility opens in Boonville, Mo.

The announcement was made by officials of Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. (KMM) during a grand opening ceremony held at the facility, where they were joined by additional Kawasaki leadership, representatives from the governor’s office, and other local government offices as well. The Boonville plant represents the company’s second location in Missouri, joining the Maryville operations which were established in 1989.

This will add to the total statewide staff of nearly 1,200 based at the Maryville plant, which produces 18 different engine models ranging from 14.5HP to 38.5HP. Slated to begin production in summer 2022, the Boonville facility is currently being retrofitted and will initially include approximately 250 employees.

“This expansion of production capabilities for our engines is a significant step forward in our continuing ability to provide superior quality engines in the quantities needed to meet expanding market demand,” said Nelson Wilner, vice president at Kawasaki Engines Division.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 6, 2021)---As part of its continuing efforts to provide maximum support to its OEMs in Mexico, the Engines Division of Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. today announced an agreement with two affiliated companies to assume import and distribution activities in Mexico. Tecnologia En Riego De Mexico (TERMSA) and Tecnologia Integral En Riego (TIRSA) will geographically split responsibilities for the country, based on a north-south division of its numerous states.

Each of the companies will import and market replacement engines and parts, as well as provide warranty and technical support. Given the country’s climate, dependence on agriculture as a significant contributor to its GDP, and a population of nearly 130 million people, Mexico is a logical extension for Kawasaki’s business growth and service network, according to Nelson Wilner, Engines Division vice president.

“We recognize that the characteristics of the market in Mexico are very different than here in the U.S., with agricultural markets being the predominant end-users of lawn and garden equipment,” said Wilner. “That factor, mixed with a need to service stadiums, golf courses and similar facilities requires finding the most experienced partners to help us grow our business in Mexico,” concluded Wilner.

Wilner said Mexico’s dealer base numbers approximately 5,000, with about 1,500 of them specialists in the lawn and garden segment.

TIRSA, based in Guadalajara, will service the area of Mexico that lies roughly north of Mexico City to the U.S. border, including Baja. The 38-year-old company has experience providing both exclusive and shared distribution services to its clients. Its staff provides sales, administrative, systems design, warehouse, and technical support.

TERMSA, with headquarters in Mexico City, will focus on the area roughly south of the capital, and its sales, administrative, and technical staff will work with dealers and the landscape industry in that 14-state area. The company is currently constructing a new warehouse in Playa del Carmen. It holds memberships in both the National Association of Golf Club Superintendents and in the Mexican Golf Federation.

Both of the distributors will provide full-service capabilities, inclusive of technical education for their respective distribution channels. Kawasaki anticipates that order-to-delivery timing for its products will be greatly enhanced and will aid in building an increased presence for the brand.

This new entry in the KTECH product line provides easy starts, lower maintenance, and takes all the guesswork out of the oil and fuel mix for 2-cycle equipment. Because of OPE’s high sensitivity to fuel, and with the inevitability of wide-ranging applications, pump gas has never truly provided the level of consistency required by users. This is primarily the result of the fuel production process, which varies by state and region. It’s compounded by the need to meet minimum standards that don’t prioritize OPE usage.

It will be headed by Jake Heaton, a four-year veteran of the Order Services Department, recently promoted from supervisor to manager.

Sytsma’s primary responsibilities will include the growth and maintenance of the brand’s business-to-business sales, working with U.S. based companies.

He will oversee the day-to-day operations of Kawasaki’s OEM department, while providing guidance and support to the company’s OEM sales managers, administrators, and coordinators. Included in his responsibilities will be regular interaction with the vice president of the division, concentrating on the development and implementation of strategic departmental and divisional initiatives.

(Dec. 19, 2019)---With an existing broad line of engines found in the chassis of more than 40 industry OEMs, Kawasaki used this year’s indoor display at October’s GIE+EXPO to highlight two about-to-be-released new powerplants and educated attendees about key parts of the company’s development process. And, to top things off, visitors to the display got to participate in the donation of more than 103,000 meals to food-insecure families.

The new engines slated for 2020 release included the FX1000V EFI and the FT730V Carbureted units, which were given prime position at GIE and attracted attention from all facets of the industry. While detailed information won’t be released until a later date, the company did post the horsepower ratings for the FX1000V EFI, rated at 38.5HP.

According to Karen Howard, director, dealer sales support and marketing, “they represent another stage in a continuing roll-out of new engines that are developed to fit the needs of the OEM community, our dealers, and landscapers.”

Kawasaki’s team members concentrated on helping attendees understand four key characteristics of the brand’s positioning: Uncompromising, Perfecting, Service, and Precision.

These were communicated in ways both educational and fun.

Among the displays were two that actively involved visitors. One allowed them to hold different parts of engines and then use their fingers on a touch-sensitive table video display to graphically move parts in and out of a complete engine. The other let them see how Kawasaki utilizes 3D printing as a culminating step in the R&D development process; a handheld scanner provided the first step—followed by a unique 3D printer demonstration—as an example of how production part quality is created.

And, after making their way through areas of the display addressing the four key characteristics, visitors were provided a Kawasaki hat and signed a donation recognition card signifying a $5 donation in their name made by Kawasaki to FEEDING AMERICA, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. It works through more than 200 local food banks in the U.S.

The cumulative donation to FEEDING AMERICA will provide 103,000 meals to those in need. This is the second year that Kawasaki has partnered with the charity to help reduce the incidence of food-insecurity and exceeded last year’s initial effort which raised enough funds to provide 88,000 meals.

As it does at each GIE, Kawasaki gave attendees an opportunity for hands-on experience with a number of different Kawasaki-powered units.

A major highlight of the outdoor display was the learning experience attached to Kawasaki’s new wireless KEI diagnostic tool for use with its growing line of EFI engines, the newest of which is the FX1000V EFI, which was shown indoors.

(KMC) has announced the appointment of Atsuhiro Yoshimatsu as executive vice president of the General Purpose Engine Division and general manager of research & development. The appointment is effective immediately.

He replaces Eisaku Mori, who held a similar position, and returned to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) as General Manager of General Purpose Engine Division.

Yoshimatsu, who has been with Kawasaki companies for nearly 35 years, brings a broad scope of experience to his new position in Grand Rapids.

Originally assigned as an engineer for the brand’s motorcycle group—both for consumer product application and competitive racing—he transitioned to the general purpose engine division where he initially worked as an engineer developing Kawasaki’s FC180V engine.

He came to the U.S. to establish the R&D center at Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. in Maryville, Mo. (KMM) in the mid-1990s before returning to Japan to work on the development of several new additions to the Kawasaki engine line-up.

Upon returning again to the U.S., he ultimately became R&D director at the Maryville facility, which was then turning out hundreds of thousands of units each year. Following numerous initiatives that helped assure Kawasaki brand growth here, he took over as R&D senior manager at Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. General Purpose Engine Division.

This current posting back in the U.S. provides Yoshimatsu with oversight of all facets of the Engines Division operations.

The Engines Division of Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. announced the retention of a new integrated creative agency to partner with the company as it continues to broaden its impact in the general purpose engine market.

Each year, the place to be in mid-October is The Green Industry and Equipment Expo, in Louisville, known to everyone in the lawncare industry simply as GIE. This year is no exception, as the premiere event packs the Kentucky Exhibition Center Oct. 16-18. Kawasaki will once again host attendees at both its indoor display (#1064) and its outdoor demonstration display area (#7422-D). At the indoor booth guests will have a chance to see the newest engines on display for the first time, get hands on with the internal components of the engines, learn more about the new engine design process and see what’s new in genuine Kawasaki parts and accessories. Kawasaki’s team of product specialists, engineers, and marketing personnel will provide dealers and commercial landscapers with the most up-to-date information on the company’s advanced engine family. The complete line of powerful engines and unique accessories will be on view in Louisville, along with new explanatory materials and videos.

The GIE+EXPO 2019 conference is a great opportunity to meet with the Kawasaki staff responsible for the products’ design, development, and marketing. Attendees are urged to make the time to discuss products, trends, and the future of the industry. And, as in past years, everyone will have an opportunity to test-drive several Kawasaki-equipped riding units from a variety of OEM brands at the outdoor display area.

According to Kawasaki’s marketing manager Tiffany Young, “Attendees really should take advantage of the availability of our whole team at GIE+EXPO and come away with a better understanding of the development process and the products—it provides insight to the Kawasaki story.”

Last year at GIE Kawasaki initiated an effort that helped feed 88,000 people through a charity relationship with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the country. Visitors to the indoor display will again have the opportunity to learn quick facts about Kawasaki and its products and receive a special gift and the satisfaction of helping to feed families everywhere.

The exhibition opens Oct. 16, with only dealers being admitted from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., then all visitors admitted from 3:00 p.m. until closing at 7:00 p.m. The hours on Oct. 17 are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for both indoor and outdoor display areas, while the next day posts indoor opening hours from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while the outdoor area will close one hour earlier.

And, as usual when visiting GIE, there’s more to Louisville than just business! Attendees are invited to join together each evening for a free concert at Downtown Louisville’s Fourth Street Live. A different featured recording act will highlight the openair stage on Oct. 15, 16, and 17 starting at 8:00 p.m. Driving to GIE this year? If so, event organizers (www.gie-expo.com) have made your trip a little easier and for the first time are now providing free parking at the Kentucky Exposition Center. Take a tip from regular attendees and avoid some of the entry traffic lines by using Gate 2 or Gate 4 on Crittenden Drive, or Gate 6 on Preston Highway. If you’re planning to fly into Louisville, it’s a short five-minute taxi from the airport to the GIE venue.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Aug. 28, 2018)---Kawasaki Engines Division has launched its largest-ever national promotion targeted at increasing consumer traffic against its proprietary line of KTECH

 4 and 2-cycle engine oils. The WELL OILED REBATE promotion is effective through Oct. 20 of this year and offers consumers up to $20 back with a qualified retail purchase.

The promotion is designed to generate sales of Kawasaki Genuine Parts and is supported by a national online advertising effort and coordinated point-of-sale. Ads will link to 

 for information about eligible products and to redeem online. Materials are provided in both English and Spanish language versions.

“This is a total no-cost promotion for our dealers,” said Tiffany Young, Kawasaki’s marketing manager. “Our objective is to highlight a key component of our dealers’ ongoing business, while incentivizing consumer participation with a significant rebate,” she said. Program elements are provided to dealers at no charge.

Young pointed out three separate consumer participation levels. Purchasers receive a $10 rebate following the purchase of just two quarts of 4-cycle KTECH engine oil and oil filter, a $15 rebate after purchasing one case of 4-cycle KTECH oil, and a $20 rebate after buying one case of 2-cycle KTECH engine oil. There is a limit of two rebates per person.

All rebates are issued as either e-gift cards or as a check. The consumer can request either Amazon.com or Cabela’s e-gift cards. Those claiming the rebate in check form can even select between an email delivery or a check sent through standard mail.
